DO NOT take risks.
Schedule
6.45am - 8.00am (David, Nathan, Joas, Kit)
Riders arrive (after opening title)
As per last year, nice slow mo’ of riders arriving into park, WIDE. Use OoF (Out of Focus) foreground elements when WIDE.
Then after 100 riders have arrived, move to CUs of arrivals, disembarking etc. Riders interacting as per last year; always have a hint of bike in frame.
Shoot into sun. No lens hoods please. Lens flares are most welcomed.
Kit to track riders arriving behind trees with drone
8:20am to 9:20 am RUMBLE IN THE JUNGLE build.
Out of sequence for later: ask as many riders as possible, solo and tight, to mount bike, start, rev grip, etc. Get as many CU details of this as possible. Avoid seeing empty bikes in background. Look for clothing adjustments, phallic innuendo, ECU helmets, eyes, visors. This sequence is ‘Start Your Engines’.
9:30am Speech from Organizers
Nathan and Joas: must get Billboard with sponsors in background as well as speech
David: record shotgun sound
9:30 Kit Drone
Drone over car park to see ALL riders as per below. Once done immediately leave for Cox’s bay drone-shot
as many as possible in frame
10:00 David shoots riders departing on mass
10:00am Nathan and Joas:
Nathan: you will be shooting portraits of riders facing you for a slow motion sequence (hear music below). Shoot as many as possible. If they can enter frame, hold, then leave in a consistent fashion, then the better. Also get details like clothing flapping etc in between. 4k pls @50fps if you can manage it. We want to see their joy. No higher than f2.8.
Joas: you will be shooting sharp details of Auckland, incl. bystanders. The rider can be out of focus however aim for f4 to f5.6. Priority is whats in the background. People staring is great. Remember 50fps. Be mindful of rolling shutter on your 1D with vertical lines/posts etc; best to pan with movement. Don’t use 24mm. Higher if you have gimbal. 80mm?
10:05 Kit: Cox’s Bay
Get the city, water, boats in wide 4k. You can’t linger! Get first clump of riders then back track to next (to Newton rise overpass). Park near tennis court to achieve a fast exit.
It will be high tide unfortunately
10:15 Kit: Newton Overpass
